A NOTE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 season of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre, aptly titled "Twisted Plots." Our lineup promises to intrigue, challenge, and ultimately delight our audiences with stories that twist and turn in unexpected ways.

This season, we are excited to bring you an array of remarkable plays, each chosen for its unique ability to captivate and engage. From timeless classics to bold new works, our lineup of diverse themes intends to entertain and inspire our audiences from any generation.

By building on our past immersive and virtual experiences, such as Peter Flaherty's The Dial, we begin by presenting Hard-Wired Wonderland, an immersive installation created by our own Assistant Professor of Practice in Emerging Media Arts, Jinku Kim. Originally part of the 2023 Kiewit Luminarium "Glow" Exhibition, we are very proud to be remounting this innovative project here for our community. It continues our tradition of pushing the boundaries of traditional theatre and providing our audiences with unforgettable experiences.

Oscar Wilde's timeless comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest, continues to charm audiences with its wit and clever social commentary. Wilde's keen observations on society remain as relevant today as ever, making this a must-see production.

Our season continues with another satirical gem. Selina Fillinger's POTUS, Or Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive delivers sharp, hilarious insights into the chaos behind the scenes in the highest office of the land.

This contemporary political farce promises to be both entertaining and thought-provoking. We are honored to welcome back distinguished alumna Lori Adams, who will be making her NRT directorial debut this season. Lori has a rich history with the Nebraska Repertory Theatre, having performed in several productions during her time as a student and Equity professional. Her return as a director is a testament to the enduring bond between our alumni and the theatre community.

Additionally, we are privileged to have Joe Calarco, the acclaimed playwright of Shakespeare R&J, directing his own play this season. Joe's R&J boldly retells the classic story of Romeo and Juliet in a fresh and provocative way. Having been a hit both Off-Broadway and on the West End, we are eager to see his vision come to life on our stage.

Our season concludes with the musical Urinetown, produced in association with UNL Opera. This irreverent satire, set in a dystopian future where greed and politics rule, is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining (and perhaps not so futuristic after all). This collaboration exemplifies the power of interdisciplinary efforts and the vibrant artistic spirit that defines the UNL community.

As we embark on this season of "Twisted Plots," I invite you to join us in celebrating the creativity, passion, and innovation that define the Nebraska Repertory Theatre. Your support and enthusiasm are what make our work possible, and we look forward to sharing these extraordinary stories with you.

Thank you for being a part of our community. Here's to a season filled with twists, turns, and unforgettable theatre!
